Spiritual Blindness
We are spiritually blind when the enemy can portray something as good before Christ’s followers and they are not alerted. The level of discernment is low when the Holy Ghost is not able to quicken us, and we still adhere to what’s presented. There’s a level of naivety, spiritual compromise, rebellion, and loss of intimacy with the one true God. We become unable to discern when false light goes out as the true light.
Before the Lord Jesus ascended back to heaven, He left us with the Holy Ghost to be our guide. The Holy Ghost becomes of no effect when followers of Christ partner with the world and take on the characteristics of the carnal. The Lord desires to guide us through this world. However, with our free will, we have blanketed the voice of the Holy Ghost and allowed our soul to tell us what’s best—based on our unhealthy desires.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” — Romans 12:2 (KJV)
A movie by the name of Sinners recently took flight and was immediately embraced by the culture as a thought-provoking piece that seemingly depicted the battle between darkness and light. The film drew people in through its well-known cast, gaining even more traction as the masses praised the film’s so-called “wokeness.”
According to Google, this word wokeness originates from African American Vernacular English (AAVE), where woke literally meant being awake and later evolved to mean being alert and aware of social and racial injustice. This meaning emphasizes a heightened consciousness of systemic injustices and discrimination, particularly concerning racial inequality.
The first time I saw the preview of Sinners pop up while watching something else, my spirit was grieved. The Holy Ghost immediately quickened me that the movie was not what it appeared to be. I could sense the undercurrent of its true nature—it only took one clip.
The movie drew criticism from Christians. Followers of Yahweh who are sensitive to the Holy Spirit were immediately taken aback by this pervasive film masquerading as something good—even something suitable for the acclaimed believers of Christ to watch.
“You shall be holy to me: for I the LORD am holy, and have separated you from other peoples, that you should be mine.” — Leviticus 20:26 (ESV)
Suddenly, there was discord among the followers of Christ and the believers of Christ—they were at war with each other.
Why? Let’s unpack that.
I used to use the word “Believers” when referring to Christians following Yahweh. But the Holy Spirit showed me there’s a difference. Remember, Satan and his demons believed in Christ as well—however, they don’t follow Him as the one true God.
When Satan and his demons were cast down to earth, he became the little “g” god of this world. Followers of Christ strive to adhere to God’s Word and follow His teachings. They pursue a life that is holy unto God. It’s a continuous journey of crucifying our flesh, denying selfish desires, and putting to death our sinful nature. We partner with the Holy Ghost to guide us.
If we don’t live a life of obedience and sacrifice unto the Lord, we become prey to the enemy. Reading the Word of God, praying, and praising Yahweh breathe life into us, strengthen us, and draw us closer to our Creator.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish,
neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” — John 10:27–28 (KJV)
When the Lord’s voice is speaking and we’re not able to discern Him, another voice steps in—louder. The voice of self. The voice of culture. The voice of what’s trendy. The voice of rebellion. And that’s the voice now leading many believers of Christ.
The Sinners movie reportedly consulted with practicing witches who assisted in writing spells for the films script. That right there—pause—the reading of spells. God has always demonstrated the power of words throughout Scripture. When God spoke, existence was born. He gave us power and authority through our words.
“For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” — Matthew 12:37 (NIV)
“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.” — Mark 11:23 (NIV)
“Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.” — James 3:10 (NIV)
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love to use it will eat its fruit.”— Proverbs 18:21 (ESV)
So when witches were brought onto the set to lend counsel, they brought with them the spells used in the movie. Sometimes the enemy doesn’t have to come knocking down the doors—sometimes, people open the door for him to enter.
When a movie’s production is filled with non-followers of Christ, these types of films are created to glorify the “god” they serve. It’s masked as entertainment—featuring popular actors, cultural relevance, and “wokeness” designed to lull people to sleep.
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8 (ESV)
Christians, don’t be deceived by the enemy’s tactics. Read the Word of God for yourself and get understanding! Draw close to your Heavenly Father and commune with Him. Ask the Lord for discernment—to see beyond your carnal eyes and to perceive in the Spirit.
